Concept and Inspiration: The Power of the Dragon

A living sculpture born from the faith and spirit of the community, Dragon Force is a large-scale contemporary artwork inspired by the mythical dragon — a symbol of power, wisdom, and protection deeply rooted in Phuket’s Chinese heritage. The dragon’s form is abstracted and reinterpreted through flowing, modern lines in cement, embodying movement, vitality, and continuous transformation — much like the ever-evolving energy of the community united as one.

A defining feature of this work is its Happening Art process, inviting Phuket residents to participate by placing small silver leaves onto the dragon’s surface. This act not only enhances its visual beauty but also symbolizes collective faith, a sense of belonging, and the intimate bond between art and community.

Created by a group of contemporary artists from Phuket, Dragon Force stands as a monument to unity, collaboration, and pride in the island’s cultural roots.

Phuket Artists’ Collective Statement

We are a group of artists from diverse backgrounds and creative disciplines, united by a shared faith in art and a belief in its power to transform society.

Our mission is to use the energy of art to connect people with place, culture, and the identity of Phuket — through open, diverse, and contemporary creative processes. We believe that art is not merely an object of beauty, but a tool for questioning, understanding, and inspiring new ways of seeing the world.

The Phuket Artists’ Collective is committed to driving the city forward through art — linking local communities with the wider world and shaping Phuket into a living, evolving, and radiant center for art on the international stage.

We envision this pavilion as both a “stage” and a “shelter” — a space for locals and visitors alike to encounter the authentic spirit of Phuket through art that questions, provokes, and connects.
